Things change.

I was in high school and college when Johnny Depp came on the scene. Even accepting Crybaby as a decent piece of work, it was easy to dismiss him. Crybaby after all, was a John Waters film.

But he had talent. More to the point, he tended it. He made some clunkers (Willie Wonka wasn't right), but Bennie and Joon, What's Eating Glibert Grape, Edward Scissorhands, they put him into that class of actors whom I see are in something, and I get interested.

So finding out that he did Sweeney Todd, was thrilling. Assuming that the songs would be at least decently done, I am looking forward to his presentation of the Demon Barber of Fleet Street.

Then I hear word that the boy can sing.

Then I hear Alan Rickman (whom we have to forgive Robin Hood, Prince of Thieves) will be playing Judge Turpin, and Helena Bonham Carter as Mrs. Lovett.

I'll make a point to see this one on the big screen.

thank heavens he chose to be in it - or I would have been dragged to the movie for nothing - yes I do see some of the most abominable movies just to spend time w/ people who I like except for their taste in films - and I have seen some memorable cinematography and performances in otherwise deplorable efforts -
