Kerry missed a chance to score a zinger, and it would, I think, have been a good zinger.

When Bush started to go on about the, "global test," Kerry had a chance to quote Reagan, "there you go again."

I think it would have scored a lot of points, at a basic level, below the radar.

Hehe...that would have been funny, aleit below the radar. Although I thought the Tony Soprano reference woke up some people.

It would have been more than that.

I think it would have given people a sense of contact, which Reagan was great at, and that would have soaked in before the pundits could get ahold of it

It would have nettled Bush and the use of, "again," would have played up the rest of Bush's mendacities on the trail, pissed of Karl Rove (who has not been used to real fights, but rather squirming his brand of smear into people's minds without much hindrance) and led to more shennigans, and probably identifiable shennanigans.

Since Bush harping on the specious claim of Kerry giving other nations veto authorities was going to be done, it could have been prepped . The only drawback would be how people reacted to the quoting of Reagan... because that would come up. But the casual deflection, that Bush is lying, rather than the, already made denial, would have been offensive, not reactive, and so outweighed (I think) any real risk of harm... it might even have induced a comparison of the two candidates to Reagan, and I think Kerry wins that one (for all that I didn't much care for Reagan).

Oh my... A military man who likes Kerry?

I think I may be in love. *fans herself and grins*

Just added you hon. You now have full access to my journal... hope it doesn't end up scaring or disturbing you. *winks* MOST of the "stories" are in the memories section, for ease of access, but there is some other good stuff sprinkled throughout the archives, as well as alot of insight into me as a person, if you're interested. :) No worries, if you don't feel like wading through it all. Just an offer I make to all my new friends.

Oh... and thank you for your kind comments about my cousin. Fortunately for me (and unfortunately for my uncle) the whole thing turned out to be a huge lie he told to get himself out of a bad spot he had gotten himself into at work, and give himself an excuse to take a vacation. Shit like this would be numbered among the reasons I dont much like most of my family... not to mention that most of them are die hard republicans. (of the "I am voting republican, even if they nominate a chimpanzee" variety... as evidenced by the fact that they're mostly all strong Bush supporters. ;) )

In any event... welcome to my mind. :)

Or, for that matter:

Are you better off than you were four years ago?

Even more...

I've said it before, but still, it's worth looking at Reagan's whole paragraph that night:

"Next Tuesday all of you will go to the polls... and make a decision. I think when you make that decision, it might be well if you would ask yourself, are you better off than you were four years ago? Is it easier for you to go and buy things in the stores than it was four years ago? Is there more or less unemployment in the country than there was four years ago? Is America as respected throughout the world as it was? Do you feel that our security is as safe, that we're as strong as we were four years ago?"

As far as I can tell, Dubya is 0 for 6 on Reagan's checklist.
