In three weeks we are taking a trip.

The plan was to pack with the mules around Zion.

Not gonna happen, something about fires.

So we are going to trailer camp our way up the coast. About 250 miles a day, then a day, or maybe two, and then again for the road.

Montana de Oro (near Morro Bay)

Point Reyes.

And points north.

We might (I hope so) make it so far as Seattle. I think the plan is about ten days.

Then Maia has a week of school. Then we take off for the Galapagos, for a week. She'll be going on to a week of steam trains in Ecuador, and I'll head home to the animals and the plants.

If you make it up to Eureka, there's a trail called the Boy Scout Tree Trail in the Jebediah Smith Redwoods State Park that is one of my favorite places in the world. It's a 7 mile fairly easy out and back into the redwoods, and it shouldn't take more than three hours.

The post that described it got eaten, but it's wonderful.

The post leading up to it, though, is still here, and it talked a little about driving up the coast.

I'd second that as a MUST SEE if you haven't been there. Jed Smith is one of the gems of the State Park system, and you should be able to get in some river rafting as well.

River rafting (much as I like it) isn't on the cards; there's no way to leave the horses alone for that long; and the people interested in rafting, rather than riding, are few.
