What...?

I can't call this a "cease and desist" letter, because it's really a "compell and begin" letter.

This letter from Media Rights Technology (which is selling a DRM application) says they are telling Apple, Microsoft and Adobe to stop refusing to use their product.

The argument seems to be... MRT makes a DRM tool which works (and MRT will tell you all about it, I'm sure).

Adobe, Apple and Microsoft aren't using it.

Because they make up a huge slice of the market, they are in violation of the DMCA for not using this "stellar" product to protect people who are being ripped off by violations of copyright; which could have been prevented by said companies paying MRT lots of money for the privilege of bundling this software.

Now it happens I am irked with Nikon and HP, because they installed some program onto my machine, which makes a program I paid for unsuable, unless I allow a third party to install a patch onto my machine, so I'm not all that inclined to support this position.

But the chutzpah, you've gotta love it... a letter which orders them to cease and desist from not doing something.

And since Apple is explicitly not interested much in DRM,,, trying to piss up a rope may be a good analogy.
