I've tracked it down.

The "peruvian daffodil" Hymenocallis narcissiflora.

Also known as spider lily, basket flower ismene, and sea daffodil.

It's a member of the Amaryllis family.

A giant, screaming, 48pt bold-face (with red addenda text) hotlinking banner at that. (Albeit polite.)

Once upon a time, a friend of mine posted an image from SA and we were all treated to a picture of a pre-op transsexual who'd clearly received some hormone therapy.

In leopard print.

It's comparatively quite polite.

Whatr I need to do is wait until I have blooms this year (snails love them, and they are inordinately fond of the blossom stem. I lost two of the blooms from the only one which is flowering now.

It's very attractive. I like the contrasting black and red.

Thanks for the name -- the "Hymenocallus" part was what I couldn't remember this morning. (And the hymen -- the thin membrane between the petals -- isn't obvious in the otherwise-excellent photo.) I was also impressed by the color and perfection of the leaves of the actual plant. Now all you have to do is find out how to best treat the bulb to assure good flowers next year. And keep the snails away, of course.
