facebook/twitter
Sep. 2nd, 2010 08:46 pmIn light of the fb kerfluffle, I've tried to edit the CSS to disable it; though it seems the code I was given didn't do the trick.
Until I figure out how to do that, please don't use the feature.
I am also annoyed with the function that allows FB to equal open ID. Not as much as some might be, because I happen to allow anon posting, but my rule for comment is one can't be completely anon (a nom de net is fine, a note to me asking to be completely anon to the world is fine; which can be either be justified, or tell me who it is making the request), so this falls inside my rules; though the nature of FB is such that it feels slightly skeevy, and I don't know why.
So, if you can't see a link to twitter/fb, please let me know.
(p.s. the thing about this I really dislike, is that I had to "upgrade" to S2, which chaps my stodgy hide)
p.p.s. and of course, the CSS isn't working (from subsequent explanations of what the patch does, the nature of CSS seems to be such that, on Lj, it can't really be patched from the user end.
I shall have to make comment at, Most recent LjFail Post of Doom

Date: 2010-09-03 04:15 am (UTC)Folks like me, who have a script that appends "?style=mine" to the end of every single livejournal URL because other people's aesthetic decisions are hideous? Will never, ever, ever see whatever CSS code you use to block the tickies.
Editing your style prevents YOU from seeing the stickies, not anyone else. Anyone you trust to see your posts can repost your information, and the new "features" make it happen by accident. Worse, the "Pingback" feature exposes private posts to people who are linked.

Date: 2010-09-03 04:20 am (UTC)I think (looking at the FAQ) that pingback is opt outable.
Which, since I don't tend to lock posts, is a thing I only have to worry about should I choose to lock one.

Date: 2010-09-03 04:30 am (UTC)First, because it's the same people coding it.
Second, because "opt-out" is bullshit. "Opt-out" means that every new thing is enabled and leaking your information until you "stop it".
And you "stop it" by asking the sources of the original leak to kindly stop leaking?
And then, the next time they choose to share "private" information with facebook's spammers, you ask them to please kindly stop.... again? Until next time?
The only valid solution is to have no *private* information, and only limited *personal* information, on any server that you do not directly control.
