It is my present intent to leave Tennessee on the 19th, and stay somewhere in the DC area. I think about five people have expressed an interest in seeing me as I pass through.

So I am opening the floor to suggestions; realising I am looking for something in the early eveing, in/around DC/Silver Spring. Depending on where I'm staying/when I get in, the Metro may be a factor.

I'm in Pasadena, MD. That's about 40 miles east of Sliver Spring, and some 20 miles southeast of Baltimore. So it's probably not a very central location for you. I also am kinda full up on visitors right now, with a daughter and granddaughter here.

But, in case nobody else offers, you're welcome to my couch. (We do have cats. I don't recall if that's a problem for you or not.)

I am in Takoma Park (which is pretty much Silver Spring's nearest neighbor to the east), newly moved into a Victorian duplex I'm sharing with three housemates, which means that at the moment there are piles of boxes of books everywhere and so on. But things ought to be a bit more sorted by next week and I can guarantee an empty spare bed, regardless. No worries if you decide on a place with a bit less chaos, though.

Got the messages, I'll work on the assumption I'm staying in Takoma Park.

If I get my sorry self moving at a reasonable hour, I ought to arrive mid-afternoon.

I'm in Fredneck, MD, but I will be in the middle of the busiest work weeks of the year, and so it's unlikely I'll be able to cut myself loose and drive down...that said, if you're in Silver Spring, the best place I can recommend for lunch or dinner is Mandalay restaurant. Fabulous Malay/Indonesian cuisine. Prices are reasonable, food is beyond outstanding, and the family that owns/runs it is exeptionally nice.

I don't know where I'll be, but I like the Silver Spring/Takoma Park area. I have a sentimental attachment to it from my time at Walter Reed.

But I will add that to the list of possibles.

Hi.

I don't have any space here, can't put you up, but I definitely want to see you if at all possible.

Mandalay is seriously da bomb. Only one thing: as you will guess from the name it's actually Burmese, not Malay/Indonesian. Otherwise, the description is spot on.

If you get a chance, call or email. (If you don't have my phone #, it's at the bottom of just about every page at jossresearch.org, along with a crudely encrypted version of my email address.) If you don't get a chance, I will try to stay in the loop here.

Best —

If you can hang a date on your DC presence, Jon Singer might like to join the visitation and I can alert him.

I'm pretty sure the post says the 19th, which barring delay, is still the plan.

Good, thanks. I saw the 19th, I just wanted to make sure before passing info along.
