Do you have another connection manager? Dell comes with one which can conflict with the built in Microsoft one.

I don't know. I've had the machine for more than two years (an HP), and the message started yesterday.

And the machine does manage to reconnect, but it's more tedious. As soon as the open work I'm doing is done, I'll bounce the box.

The message you're getting indicates that you do have a second connection manager installed (it may have been installed automatically as part of an update to the driver for the wireless card you have installed). The only time you get that specific message is if there's an active service running that is designed to perform the same function as the Windows Zero Configuration one.

The help page for teh manufacturer of your wireless adapter should have the info on what you ned to run, and how to configure it according to your needs.

The thing I was pointing out is that when I can't get to the internet, Microsoft is telling me that I can find out how to fix the problem by logging onto a website.

Sorry, missed that - I guess they just make their default assumption that you can use some other computer to pull up the url they supply.

In my experience, the manufacturers of wireless networking hardware make special efforts to be unhelpful.
