Of course, as Milbank points out; they voted for them before they voted against them.

It's more of the obstructionist trickery they've been doing, and which, in the senate, I wish Reid had the balls to make them really stand up and do.... No need to close the Senate down for good on one issue, I think that would be counterproductive, but everytime they threaten a filibuster, make 'em do it for 24 hours. Then bring the next piece of legislation they want to kill to the floor, and make 'em do it again.

Every couple of weeks, hold the session open into the weekend.

Giving them weapons ("look at how they can't get any laws passed) is stupid.

But know we know where the party of, "Family Values" stands on Mom... she's just another conventiant prop to be used for petty positional posturing.

Gah. I'd vote against it, too. It's fluff, a waste of time and money. Someone needs to crack the whip and get these people to work on substantive issues. Neither party should be doing votes supporting mother's day. What the hell? What idiot put that issue up for vote? This is the most powerful nation in the world's lawmaking body??

There is a lot of that sort of crap. Usually it's a pro-forma nod, and the total time spent is about half an hour... the thing gets read, a fifteen minute vote gets called and the deal is done.

This was diddled to make it take an entire day.

I've been trying to figure out for a couple of days what the hell this is even for. So they are just using this to deliberately waste time? I mean, it made so sense and was pointless, and then they voted it down and wasted time on deciding to do so. At least, that's my guess.

AH, I see what you're saying; they deliberately were putting up crappy legislation that had no meaning just because they knew the other side wasn't going to pass it.

Not even legislation, procedural nit-pickery... calling for a roll-call, and then dribble-drabble filing in to vote, so the whole thing takes four-five hours; after the inital vote was first passed (with various ploys to hold open the "debate" so that they have, effectively, manufactured a miniature filibuster in the House.
