Social fripperies
Jul. 24th, 2007 11:55 amI'm hiding from work. I ought to be working on one of five things, the cookbook, a book I'm helping my father with, a book he needs some help from me on, the macro-photography book, or some photos which need editing/prep for printing.
Instead I'm looking at some of the social aspects of Lj.
This one intrigues me. I can almost see what it's mapping, but not quite. I am amused at how I tie into the Russian continent.
I was going to run the clique generator again (lots of changes in the list since the last time) but it seems to be down.
It's an interesting thing, the distributive social aspects of plaves like Lj. I don't know for anyone else, but the new readers I get (and then the secondary effect of new things to read I end up with; but that's a different topic) come in fits and starts; it mostly depends on my getting a bee in my bonnet on something (usually food, or politics) and going on a several day tear.
Then some people (yes,
matociquala I'm looking at you) with larger readerships, will link to me. Some of their readers will do the same, and "whump" I get a much of new names in my inbox.
Oh yeah, at some point soon I'll hit 500,000 recorded hits (I might be past it already, but I don't put a hit counter in every post; because I want some way to sort out topicality, and I don't want to increase the number of separate hit-counters I have to keep track of, the four I'm using now are enough to keep track of).
I might have to do something suitably random to reward somebody, but since I won't know who it is exactly, it will be chosen by whimsy.
