My account is about to expire. Since I have automatic payments this isn't a real problem, or it shouldn't have been.
Back in April, however, I left my card at a restaurant. Sadly I didn't make it back before the manager had called my bank to ask them to let me know. Which meant they cancelled it. This was a slightly more than minor hassle, because it was just before I was in LA for a week (we were still in SLO) and I had to make sure I had cash in hand to cover things.
That also changed my card number. So, a few weeks ago, I tried to update my info. No luck. There was some security error, and I was refused.
No biggie, thought I, this sort of thing happens, and when the varioous machines are talking to each other again, it will go through.
Since I've used the card to make online purchases, and did so after this hiccup. I wasn't worried.
But it kept happening, and my deadline was getting closer. So I thought, to myself, perhaps it's just a fluke of the changing number. Cancelled my automatic payments (feeling a little guilty, since part of the deal, when automatic payments were announced, was an extra three months paid time; a thank you for making things easier) and went to start them anew.
Still no dice.
So I sent a support question. They told me what they new; my address was, so they were told, not matching the info in the, off-site; not their, database. Maybe I needed to put in the +4 Zip Code. Tried that, no dice. Went and got a billing statement. Made sure I was, down to the punctuation, entering the information, just as it comes to me.
Still no dice.
They aplolgised, but they don't, so I'm told, get much more info than I get (they at least were told it was an address problem, I was just told Authorization error: The security information from your card does not match the information you entered. Please go back and try again.)
This morning I got a reminder that my account is up for renewal (since it's not a renewing account they were kind enogh to let me know when I had only five days left).
I sent them a note, saying I was frustrated, because I'd been trying to fix this, and that I was forced to make manual payments, until the problem is fixed; which annoyed me, because it costs more to have a non-recurring account. I didn't say that I felt sort of stuck, because I happen to like having the stroage space for all the photos. It makes things like yesterday's extravaganza a whole lot easier, and more convenient. That concantation also makes it easy to point people to all my work, pretty much as a one-stop shopping experience. That was part of my frustration, but my taking advantage of that, and feeling a trifle trapped (not wanting to lose easy links to my photos) is the result of my taking advantage of the features they offer, not them taking advantage of me.
Not ten minutes later I had a gift certificate from them, making up the difference. So, I am renewed (having to use Paypal) and it cost me what it would, had this not happened. I can only hope this problem gets fixed in the course of the next year.
Now I just have to get Firefox to remember that things open in new tabs, in THIS window. I think I've told it to do that, but it's just opening new windows.

Date: 2006-11-09 08:15 pm (UTC)My CS questions to LJ haven't been payment specific, but both before and after the SixApart takeover, I've had really good experiences with them all around. Makes a nice break from the horrors of CS elsewhere.

Date: 2006-11-09 08:29 pm (UTC)I got the impression that someone on the other end was looking at the problem, and treating me as a person, not a nuisance.
