The weather is here...

Real details to follow. We've hiked/packed the Paria. Beautiful, too many people, or not enough horses. Many lessons learned. Sore feet. I hiked out at a rate of approx. 33 ppm (photographs per mile).
I now know more about the mechanics of sand and mud than anyone really needs, who isn't walking the Paria. Wet quicksand is less dangerous than dry (I can say this for certain now that I have survived both) but it has a terror factor which is higher. I suspect a fatal case of the latter would get higher than the former, but having not had that (Q.E.D) It doesn't matter.
Heading for the Manti La Sal where it ought to be cool.
The scenery between there and here is incredible. I mean that as the word is, unless one sees it the descriptions beggar all power of communication and can't be believed. Shiprock is stunning, and dominates the landscape for hundreds, if not thousands, of square miles, until a cut leads past the edge of Monument Valley and the buttes swallow it. It can still be seen in odd moments, but loses the dominance.
If one likes geology (I do) the passage is wonderful. This year is green beyond belief (we were rained on every day in the Paria, and got gully-whumped here in Moab... ten minutes at, to guess, about 2 inches per hour).
I won't be back before 01 July, and probably not until the second. If you think there is something I really ought to have read, or want to share, now is the time to tell me, and I'll read it before I start to catch up.
