Lest one think I am all ire and dudgeon (which of late might well seem to be the case... food porn may be lacking in the mid-term. I no longer have my own kitchen), I offer a beacon of hope.

In the world, but not of it which is about a pastor who thinks the things which are Caesar's are not the things he should be spending his time militating on, from the pulpit.

I've removed it, and this comment.

It doesn't matter (anonymity is a perfectly acceptable thing to me) but I am curious about why you want those two things kept completely independent.

All for want of a horseshoe nail.

Consider, for instance, the semantic gulf between:

"the things which are Caesars"

and

"the things which are Caesar's".

Or, how many things *are* Caesar at a given time? One would have thought the standard answer would be "at most, one" and for a longish time now, "none".

Well, no. Much depends on the Clamato juice supply holding out...

I think this pastor is right on. Church should not be supporting war and death. Or a political side.

On the food porn issue, I found the ultimate erotic experience this weekend. Friday as my hubby and I were heading out into Tulsa to find a particular liquor store I noticed a sign on 41st St. = "Restaurant Suppy = Public Welcome". We stopped on the way back. When he comes back home tomorrow with Margene, she promised him to stop there. I got out with only the ricer we've been looking for for a while. And I completely pretended the knive displays were trees, that way is madness (besides, I got a Wusthof at the Leavenworth Base Sale a year or two ago, the young woman selling it had never taken it out of the package-"my husband bought it for me. I'm scared of big knives." And for about $10. ..)

New supplies are good. Knife displays are a mixed pleasure for me. I have (barring a small sashimi knife, which isn't going to show up at most restaurant supplies, nor yet most kitchenware stores) pretty much all I need.

And the knives I still want are Sabatier, and not the run of the mill, but either older, or the harder to find carbon-steel Sabatier.

But I love to poke around a good toy store.

Thanks for the NYT link. That does, indeed, give me some hope.
