Well, there's the television cabinets, several in the kitchen, and I suppose we could call the woodshed a cabinet. You may assume any position you like inside.
Back in 7th Grade, my homeroom teacher gave us the assignment of What would we do if President? My answer was, resign and get my successor to appoint me Sec'y of State. She didn't like that too much. I asked where in the Constitution it said I couldn't. She liked that less.
Damned autocrat. :)
These days, I'd probably hold out for Justice of SCOTUS, but that's trickier, what with waiting for a vacancy, and Advise and Consent so highly charged, etc.
Still, State would be cool. Lotsa travel and parties. :)
Among the people before you in the succession are a number of my friends. For that matter, there are a number of your friends in that group as well. For the sake of being a nice guy (have you ever wanted to be a nice guy? you have a lot of virtues, and I like you quite a bit, but "nice guy" wouldn't be near the top of the list of descriptors I'd use for you), you'll have to wait for them to die of natural causes.
I have wanted to be a nice guy, and (for certain values of nice) I am.
Certainly I am loyal to my friends, and (though at times it conflicts with the desire to be, "nice") the good of the body politic is something I'm willing to sacrifice for.
On the other hand, my definitions of nice, may be at an orthagonal tangent to the most of the society's.
Which is where socialisation has to be substituted.
NASFiC should be lots of fun, but I won't be there. Glenn and I are taking a long-planned, long-delayed trip to Alaska with all the grandchildren and theirs mothers to see Glenn's parents while we still can. With that many people's schedules to juggle, NASFiC had to yield.
You all have a great time and come back up for OryCon, maybe?

Date: 2005-07-30 12:53 am (UTC)Maybe. Maia and I might manage to make time for that (though she has school).
I have a round trip from a bump, and so I am thinking of seeing people I've not seen in years (and then too briefly, such and P & T NH).
It's still up in the air.

Maybe you could persuade people by sending them a London Underground ticket.
