The American Family Association is gung-ho against, the homosexual agenda. Looking at the recent flaps they've been involved in they are actually against tolerance.

The first is enough to make me less than happy with them. The latter is enough to make me actively opposed.

Last year, no the year before, they were all up in arms trying to get a bit of pseudo-proof that the majority of americans were against giving rights to homosexuals. Specifically anything which smacked of marriage.

So they made a poll. Word got out, that such a thing was out there, and that they had promised to send the results to everyone on The Hill. Only the didn't, because the results were overwhelmingly in favor of granting such rights.

They say they had to withdraw their promise because, "homosexual activists" had sabotaged the poll (I voted, I guess that makes me a homosexual activist... which might surprise my fiancee). Me, I figured that such a thing spoke of the weakness of their position. If the homosexuals (and their fringey supporters) could overwhelm the votes of the God-fearing gay hating, excuse me, sin-hating; sinner loving, people of the AFA, then they must truly be outnumbered.

None of which is what this is really about. They required (as a way to prevent multiple voting) an e-mail address. Me, if I thought the poll had be subverted, I'd have purged that list. But they didn't. I don't know if they failed to keep the list from that poll seperate from the master list they had already, and so were screwed, or just didn't contemplate the ramifications, but I got e-mail from them for a couple of months asking me to help out, since they knew I supported them.

Then it stopped.

I recently stopped by their site, on a referral, and sent my congress-critter (and the cuteness of that description actually makes the little weasel seem better than he is. Drier (R-Calif.) is the guy I get to try and persuade to act like a human being... oh well there is something to be said for actually working to get someone to join the good side) a note, which was; again, probably exactly the opposite of what they wanted.

Today I find I am again on their mailing list. The nice thing about their list is the referral page (where they have a pre-made note, but you are encouraged to make it your own) also has the direct e-mail for the person they are trying to persuade. So me, I just went to my email (which conveniently enough is where the link was resting) and send the SecEducation's mailbox a piece from my address (in case there is a header which will get it lumped, all of a piece, with the other stuff from AFA (which I doubt, I suspect they use a proxy of some sort, so they can claim grass roots for this sod-lawn. It isn't quite astro-turf, but I can't call it real grass roots either).

So long as they keep letting me know what they care about (right now it's preventing the Dept. of Education being pummeled into submission and not standing up against things like Buster Bunny) I will be more than willing to make my, honest, feelings on the subject known.

It's not much, but it's what I can do.
