[profile] mystryloca pointed to a rant, a tribute, a paean to action, soul and self over at dKos.

City of Heroes

Now me, I'm not much of one for paying tribute. Too many people to praise usually.

It doesn't help that in these days some of my heroes (whom I never thought not have mud on their feet) have failed me.

So I will offer only one.

Hans Scharff.

Well, I know who he is, and you know who he is... But if there're more than two others on your friends list who do, I'd be (pleasantly) surprised. (Unless you have students secretly hanging out.)

Hm.

Being the sort who believes one should provide context, I found this page, which describes Scharff (page down a bit). It also has a guestbook whose first entry is by Scharff's son.

I'd say at least half a dozen.

I know of at least one, and am willing to guess at the rest. I've mentioned him, once or twice.

That's a very nice site. I doubt I could have found it myself.

Thanks to TK for that, and for Libertango for the site. This is a story I haven't heard in any more than the vaguest manner.

One problem, however, is that "mysteryloca" doesn't seem to be known to LiveJournal.

Ta muchly -- used my decades-honed error-editing skills to hunt down the reference. Interrrresting LJ. [imagine emoticon with one raised eyebrow here] But useful to have correct link here on record.

(Stralyla Day tomorrow, a month since Christmas, and the unofficial end of Godzone's summer holidays, so now I'm changing the 'Holiday' lj icon and deciding which of my other ones to use. The fluffy one looks too warm for this weather. Is yours based on some work about Native Americans? It has a Mohawk look about it.)

Well, from the link to the rant, the LJ ought to have been easy to find.
