That's what we're doing. In the mornings we drive [personal profile] akirlu to work/her bus. In the afternoons we pick her up.

In between we're seeing the bits of Seattle I like, and giving Sara a week of wonderful attention. Tuesday Everyone had the day off. [personal profile] libertango and I took a friend to the SeaTac, as she was headed down to SF for a week. When we got back we all sort of puttered about, and then got breakfast and headed up to Pt. Townsend. Frank Herbert lived there for a fair bit, and though it took a huge economic hit 25 years ago, it has re-invented itself as a touristy sort of place. Odd shops and galleries, victorian architecture and restaurants.

We got there by ferry and road. The boat was nice (I like boats) and the scenerey lush. It never gets un-green up here, it's just that some trees lose their leaves. In Calif. (at least the parts I inhabit) this is the start of the green season. Saw cattle, and horses, and sheep and bison.

Ate at a small place (The Rose? The Silver Rose?) on the advice of a shopkeeper. Nice enough. I had a half-chicken caesar and a glass of manzanilla sherry. The rest had chowder and salmon and a filet of beef. All well done (though I thought the caesar's dresing was lacking a bit in zip) and we headed home. Maia bought coat, and a huge alpaca sweater (which she will probably take apart for the yarn... at $17, and none of us wanting, or being able, to wear it. I mean it when I say it was huge).

We had to take a different ferry to get home, because there was some sort of bomb/terrorism scare on the one we wanted, but the time difference on the Seattle side was pretty much made up for with the time savings on the island side.

Weds. we Maia and I took Sara to Pike Place, and then visited a friend of mine who lives in Capitol Hill. A late breakfast at B&O, where Maia had the gyros omelette, I had eggs benedict, and Sean had a smoked salmon scramble.

The benedict was wonderful. The sauce is the hard part (I once had some made with chicken stock. It was repulsive). They had added a small amount of some semi-soft cheese and a dash of sour cream. It made it both thicker, and a trifle tart. Maia's only complaint was not enough tzatziki in her omellete, and that was promptly fixed.

In the evening we made pasta, played, "Kill Dr. Lucky" and then yesterday we headed to my camera store in Lakeview. They are swell people, and I try to drop in when I'm in town. Maia bought a lens, pondered getting a Canon 10/20D, and I bought some little things the D2H needs. The Canon will wait until we get back, because the savings in sales tax will beat the cost of shipping.

After that we headed to the parks along the Tacoma shore. Maia had never seen Sara near large bodies of water. The back seat exploded in excitement. Nose against the glass, then in the back window, then the spinning around, telling us to stop NOW so we can let her out.

Long walk, cormorants, and ducks, grass and a happy Sara (Maia: "Are we going into the water? Because if she does, I'm letting go." As Sara was making a beeline for the lapping of the tide).

After that we went to get [personal profile] akirlu. Sara has never been introduced to the office staff, and when we started walking onto the campus she was eager as all get out (even pulling so hard that her Halti's limit had her walking on her hind legs). She didn't know where we were going, but she knew that Mommy was in there somewhere (she's been in the car when deliveries and collections were made).

Soup and sandwiches (swedish open faced cheese). During the making of we watched the video of our host's wedding (which was some 13 years ago, at his prep-school, when we were all much younger... and it showed) on Thanksgiving Day, after a dinner that couldn't be beat at Alice's Restaurant {Honest}). Maia, of course, wasn't at the wedding, and none of us had seen the tape in, oh probably 13 years, since a VCR has not been (prior to last night... this was its inaugural tape) been in the house.

Then a showing of "At Home With the Webbers" which is a splendid film and sank with nary a trace. It was the victim of prescience, and no one understood it at the time. Were it made now, well the audience is jaded. If, by some freak of fate you can find a copy (this one was found, still in its original wrapper, on e-bay) I commend it.

Tonight, or tomorrow (tomorrow might be best) we will hie ourselves to Pano's Klefitko </ blatant plug> for wonderful greek food. Sat. we get with [personal profile] akirlu Sunday we have them both, and a small party besides, and Monday we get to spend with [personal profile] libertango. Tues. we board the train and with luck hy the time we get to our destination, we'll know who is picking us, where we're going, and how we are getting home (I'm not joking, things are that up in the air).

The only thing definite is we will be climbing off the train in Emeryville, or at Jack London Station.
