Because [personal profile] synecdochic reminded me people might still be interested in reading things here I'm going to try to do some odd and ends nattering here.

I will, of course, have to remember all the formatting I used to know how to do almost automatically (such as how to insert an image from my computer, not a link to another part of the web)

It's strange, I used to do "long form writing" all the time.  Then Lj withered, and I didn't have the sense that "my community" was over here.  Some little while after that I started using twitter on my iPad, and the interaction which made this such a good sort of platform was, more or less, available there; esp. once threading became something one could do all in a go.

But the nature of connected bullet points is different.  I did set up a patreon, which affected how I felt about my writing.  It's strange sort of thing to be writing a column again, for money; but with no deadline.  I used to bang one out every week, but that felt different.  I suspect it was because it was being printed, and distributed; rather than lying fallow someplace, hoping someone will read it.

And I like interacting with others.  And my Patreon doesn't seem to spark that reaction.

But twitter has been hobbled; if not yet destroyed beyond functional merit, and the urge to write isn't going to leave me, so I will make some effort to find a place I can enjoy doing it; or at least not feel I am screaming into a void.

*waves* Hi. I remember enjoying your posts on LJ; glad to see you here.

Things don't seem to be as hoppin' here as they were back in LJ's heyday. Or maybe I don't have enough talkative people on my friends list. But I suspect there's just too many places to split peoples' attention. Even if we sign up for X platform and Y platform and Z platform, there's only so many hours in the day for online interaction; eventually we'll settle on one or two main sites and lose track of folks who interact on other sites.

A lot of people have moved at least some of their writing to Tumblr, which is very different in feel and use. I'd really rather see more writing here, where there can be better conversations about it.
