Details on my Chicago Trip
Aug. 20th, 2009 09:59 amTEACH-IN ON TORTURE & HUMAN RIGHTS ABUSES
(Oak Park, Illinois – August 19, 2009) Americans concerned about torture and human rights abuses committed in their name will have the opportunity to examine the full implications of these abuses at the Teach-in to End Torture and Human Rights Abuses. The teach-in, sponsored by the Social Justice Committee of Unity Temple Unitarian Universalist Congregation, Oak Park, IL, will be held on Sunday, September 13, 2009 at 4:30 p.m.
Four outstanding experts – Quentin Young, MD, renowned public health and human rights leader, George Hunsinger, PhD, minister, professor of theology and founder of the National Religious Campaign Against Torture, Douglas Cassel, JD, Notre Dame Law School professor, expert on international human rights and Director of the Center for Civil and Human Rights, and Terrence Karney, former U.S. Army Interrogator and Instructor – will address the moral, legal and military implications of torture and human rights abuses, and why torture is outlawed in civilized societies.
The teach-in is free and open to the public. Unity Temple is located at 875 Lake Street, Oak Park, Illinois.
I think (from things being discusssed), I'll be in town from sometime Thursday (which may be pretty full, some mention has been made of a television appearance) until sometime Sunday (which will be spent, I suspect, flying home).
If that's the case, my Friday looks to be wide open; as is some of Saturday.
