One more before bed.
Apr. 18th, 2009 12:28 amWar is a funny thing (funny strange, not so much the funny ha-ha, though it has it's moments.
killslowly walking toward me, after being gone for about three weeks, with a slowly windmilling pair of middle fingers aimed at me, while I tried to figure out who the asshole flipping me the bird in stereo was... followed by much hugging and ejaculations of joy).
None comes back the same from seeing the elephant. Most of us get over the worst of it without too much damage.
But not all.
Not Alone is all about dealing with the not all. So, if you have know someone who could use the help... point them that way.
If you could use some help, they are there.
If you can offer some help... what the hell are you waiting for, they can use it.
If you don't like the cut of their jib The Soldiers' Project is doing the same basic thing.
The same things apply. If you need help, drop them a line.
If you know someone who needs help... point them toward them.
If you can help, they can use it too.
If we have the means to help out comrades, and we don't, what good are we?

Date: 2009-04-19 01:23 am (UTC)I wish I'd had access to (or known of, if they already existed) these years ago, when I was trying to help and represent (as counsel) a badly-damaged Vietnam vet. I muddled through, but have always felt that he deserved more help than I had the skill to give him. (I'm counsel, not a councilor.)
And I've added you to my f-list, because you write about things I need and want to know about, and do it well. Thank you.
