pecuniumThis Korean trip... It's not a bad thing.
I say this because most people are expressing sympathy.
They asked who wanted to go, because we have to provide four people. I've done this gig before (generally). It wants a generic MI type, for non-specific duties. We get tagged for it because 1: we are supposed to support the 2ID and 2: we are a Strategic (strat) unit, so this is in our purview.
So I said I was willing to go, this is a step below volunteering. I don't know why (given how glad I was to leave the last time I was there) but I've had a hankering to go back lately and this came along.
I had about a 50/50 chance of being tapped (having been once increases the odds of going again... Ukraine and I are almost a given... but I don't think I'd ever get tired of summer in Ukraine... the steppes, the people, the camaraderie [it's usually a NATO sponsored exercise for countries which want in to NATO, so the Greeks, the Brits, the US, the Italians provide a bunch of troops, and the Moldavans, the Belorussians, the Czechs, the Romanians, the Georgians, etc., provide the rest. We go driving around, play with some toys, do some fun stuff, some serious stuff, drink at night, go into town and do some sightseeing, and go home...}like summer camp, with different crafts).
I've been home for four months, which means I'm about due for some sort of mission, and this one isn't so bad.
The guys who are being told to pack for Iraq, again (still unresolved) they are the ones who need sympathy.
Me, I just have to worry the vegetables are going to die of thirst while I'm gone.
