John Hinderacker (whom Time, when they were discovering blogs, named as the keeper of the blog of the year), says something like this; straight-faced.
Obama thinks he is a good talker, but he is often undisciplined when he speaks. He needs to understand that as President, his words will be scrutinized and will have impact whether he intends it or not. In this regard, President Bush is an excellent model; Obama should take a lesson from his example. Bush never gets sloppy when he is speaking publicly. He chooses his words with care and precision, which is why his style sometimes seems halting. In the eight years he has been President, it is remarkable how few gaffes or verbal blunders he has committed. If Obama doesn't raise his standards, he will exceed Bush's total before he is inaugurated.
As he might say,
Heh.

Date: 2008-11-12 01:50 am (UTC)Olbermann just covered the Hinderacker quote to hilarious effect on Countdown as I typed this. Synchronicity?

Date: 2008-11-12 02:15 am (UTC)He did say it, he did mean it, and he does want Obama to take it to heart.
Heaven help us all.

Until and unless we repeat his blunders forevermore, the small but loud repetitious band of right wing supporters will elevate Curious George to status reserved only for Jesus.
Yes YEs YES
Date: 2008-11-12 03:36 am (UTC)Yikes! They're going to end up beatifying Curious George like they did Ronnie Rayguns. Just Yikes.

Date: 2008-11-12 03:03 am (UTC)Wow.
Umm... what does that imply about what he would have been like if he had been "sloppy," if he *hadn't* been choosing his words "with care and precision?"
My brain hurts. I think I need to go find some zombie mob to eat it, because then I'll be able to go after a new one.
One that isn't trying to imagine the inarticulate babbling version of GWB.
Ow.

not to mention a new word to describe them:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bushism
Lots of supporting merchandise, such as a calendar with Bushisms for every day:
http://www.amazon.com/GEORGE-BUSHISMS-2008-DTD-CALENDAR/dp/0740766546
And at least 5 books collecting his Bushisms, although looking at Amazon it seems the word might have been coined for his dads missayings.
So yeah, of course Obama has problems with public speaking, and Bush uses perfect english.

Date: 2008-11-13 01:36 am (UTC)Of course, the idea that Bush might commit gaffes and errors, or be anything other than the most eloquent and thoughtful of speakers could only occur to members of the 'reality-based community'. People like Hinderaker exist in an entirely distinct continuum, best described as Unreality.

Date: 2008-11-14 07:06 am (UTC)i also believe that Jim Jones did a very good GOP thing in Ghana when he served drinks for everyone.
i am also sure that Columbine was great for lowering student teacher ratios in Colorado, that gas prices over $4.00 a gallon are going to make us all appreciate Chevron more and love Shell, and that Dick Cheney would make a WONDERFUL Santa Claus.
Meanwhile, the nuts are buying guns cause they think our President is going to become Sauron or something.
FOX news needs an enema. The entire right has so much fear mongering and insanity.... i want to have mandatory mental health checks. Bet we end up with the entire GOP party in lockdown.
(congratulations.... i have gone insane and run off topic!).
