I am amused

Often, but this time it's also bemused.

I've been lax. Life, post-Germany, has been both hectic, and empty. We travelled to SF, had Christmas, and I had drill. I've been dealing with a job offer (a full-time military gig, with some prospects for making moving back to SLO both easier, and more requisate), my dad's been finalising a book deal on photography; while I've been polishing a proposal for a cooking book.

In the middle of all that, I got sick. A nasty cold/flu/winter virus. From Boxing Day to the Weds. past, I was a feverish, coughing, de-hyrdrating, lousily-sleeping, snot-factory. It meant I wasn't able to join Maia on her trip to New Year's Gathering (a Quaker retreat). It's good that she went, so she didn't have to deal with my lousy sleeping, and pathetic ass-dragging.

So I've been damn all for active on Lj (or much of elsewhere on the net).

And in the past three days six people have added me to their f-list. I managed to trace tw of them down (a reciprocal adds, from some time back; of someone I know in another forum, and the other was someone tracing me back from comments made elsewhere).

But I find it somewhat humorous that the largest single batch of adding I can think of (absent the possibility of some bit of [personal profile] matociquala's linking to me) has been in a chunk of time when I've written nothing.

yeah, i' haven't checked for adds since the very first time i decided i wanted to read my friendslist on this journal (i used to have a more personal lj, & started this one as more-or-less press releases from my professional (ha!) cartoonist self. i used to not friend anyone here). so i didn't know you had been reading. um, how long have you been reading? what do you think of my pictures?

I don't recall. It depends on what you mean by reading. :)

If you want to figure it out, the date I added you is probably pretty close. I found out you had one, and went to look at it. From there I've followed various links (I liked the piece you did at jewcy).

If, by your pictures, you mean your drawing, I like it. The shading is well done, and the modelling is good. There's a lot of detail and texture.

If you mean photos... I don't think I have enough to make a judgement. The stuff in your flickrstream is largely by other people, and measureing snapshots is terrible, because (as wasn't really brought up in the ML discussion of "art" they are do some very specific, and subtle things, which aren't really quanitifiable.

I do think the t-shirt shots show them well.

oh... i did mean my drawings.

i am no photographer, though long ago, i used to play with my dad's film camera, & had some prints that i was proud of. now, my photos are usually records or reference. i took the t-shirt photos of the girl with the long hair on the sunny balcony. they are good mostly due to the model, & the terribly swanky apartment (thus the sunny balcony with view) we lived in at the time.

Well, yes, she is cute, and that helps for clothing.

You draw well. I don't.

Oh, yeah... why is it I get lots of comments from Canada when the hour is really late?

Just wondering.

Oops, you are in Vancouver, it's not that late.

Never mind.

also, i happen to be a night owl.

the pages i'm posting now are for my upcoming graphic novel memoir... i like people to comment from a readerly (rather that art-appreciatorly, necessarily) perspective, cause i'm trying to make my book accessible & appealing to a broad demographic. so don't hesitate to speak up, if you have any sort of thoughts.
