Sorry for the ugly, but I am not using my computer, so makig it look prettier is harder (getting them uploaded is hard enough).

The skies are clear (but the stars are hard to see, because of the lights). I hope this means either plain cold, or snow. The cold rain and boggy-glue which the walkways are becoming is past tiresome.

I'll see tomoorrw if I am going to have more translating help, or if we are, slightly, outnumbered by the Russians. Today I only felt 3/4 stupid for a little while. The guy had made some assumptions, which made my answers seem bizarre. Once that was cleared up I didn't feel so badly.

As usual, clicking through will get you larger images.

Ratskeller, Grafenwör This is the town hall. The light was rappy, and the angle made it worse

Millrun stream; Grafenwör A bit outside the old town, the stream used to have a millwheel, and the race is still there. The sluice and dam were rebuilt sometime after concrete. The sluice is still operable

Nativity scene; Grafenwör

Stone cross; Grafenwör This is behind he Ratskeller.

A special "Thank you" for posting these photographs. I spent a few years of my childhood during the early and middle sixties in 'Graf';it was a blast to see it again.

The swan looks like a wooden float and I like that.

I don't need German Coca-Cola - it turns out I can drink the stuff from Mexico, which is plentiful here. Thank you, though! We should get together when you get back.

Wonderful pictures! The Nativity scene made me giggle and reminded me of the Advent rhyme we used to say (which I just realized has gaping word-holes--"Ein kerzlein brennt?") because, well, it's Advent.

I had never seen the name "Grafenwör" in print before (Dad's tour of duty in Germany was late 1959 to late 1962; he was on maneuvers there in early 1960, at the same time as Elvis Presley and a young Colin Powell), and wasn't sure the place was still in use. (The base where we lived has closed.)

But yeah, the word one associates with Grafenwör is mud.
