School Guards Break Child's Arm And Arrest Her For Dropping Cake

The girl, Pleajhai Mervin, told Fox News LA that she was bumped while queuing for lunch and dropped the cake. After being ordered to clean it up and then re-clean the spot three times, she attempted to leave the area out of embarrassment but was jumped on by security who forced her onto a table, breaking her wrist in the process....

The school expelled Pleajhai for five days before then having her arrested for battery and for littering (the dropping of the cake). Then they had the pupil who captured the video arrested along with his sister who was merely present at the scene.

And frankly, UK schools have been using scary looking dinner ladies (mostly women in their 30s-50s) to intimidate teens for the past 100 yrs and it still seems pretty effective.

Most of the evidence in violence prone situations by the way (ie night clubs) is that the presence of large male security guards escalates the tension. Women police officers are often far better at defusing situations than men. doesn't stop people from hiring large male muscle tho.

Yes, security guards, let alone cops in school is just mindboggling to me. We just have teachers, concierges and custodial staff.

Well, a school with 3000 pupils is big enough to justify some sort of professional policing, just on numbers. It may also be way too big,combining a limited age-range with too many people to avoid politics.

But it does look like a sign of a broken society. What next? Battle Royale?

I think high schools with more than 500 students are too big. (I went to five high schools within a huge variety of sizes, and I'm speaking only from experience, not research.)

This was more than twenty years ago.

It worked out all right; in part because they were plainclothes.

I suspect the cops (who worked for the District, not the local police, as I recall) were one of the things the area insisted on (at my second high school) because of all the black students being imported.

At my first school they were there because it wasn't unheard of for kids to get into serious fights (though the, general rules were that people wouldn't bring weapons. The school was sort of a truce zone).
