A friend of mine has been busy looking for help for injured soldiers and their families, in the UK.

Since I know I have readers in the UK, who might not have seen this.

A petition.

I have a couple of soft spots for such things.

1: I've been in a hospital where lots of injured troops were being treated, and saw how much help it was to them, and the families, to have support.

2: I have friends in Her Majesty's Army, and they deserve it.

3: When I was in Iraq, some second hand prezzies from some Brits made my day, for several days.

There were thirty million English who talked of England's might,
There were twenty broken troopers who lacked a bed for the night.
They had neither food nor money, they had neither service nor trade;
They were only shiftless soldiers, the last of the Light Brigade.

Rudyard Kipling, "The Last of the Light Brigade"

Yes there is.

www.36grayslane.com with a link to the 10 Downing St petition on the campaign site.

You will also find a discussion raging on the Army Rumour Service (ARRSE) HERE though be warned it is 315 pages long!

The Planning Committe sits tomorrow evening. The upshot is that SSAFA (Soldiers Sailors and Air Forces Assoc) want to purcahse the property (it has been offered to them at a discounted price) and turn it into a families centre akin to Fisher Houses in the US and about 80 letters of objection went into the council from members of the residents association. Some of the objections raised were on the grounds of it being a terrorist threat, parties and noise (like as if families coming to terms with their loved ones loosing limbs would be up all night throwing parties) and the effects on house prices in the street. Rumours have been spread that it will be used as a hostel to treat soldiers with drug problems (lie), and some objectors have said that it should not get permission because if it goes ahead the families staying there would not be made to feel welcome and suggestion was made that they would be better off being block booked into the Travel Inn in Leatherhead.

In 2 weeks we have mobilised a lot of support, but more is needed.

Thank you Terry for cross posting this.
