My computer has decided it hates me.

An HP Pavillion dv8000.

One of the reasons I got it was the extended keyboard.

One of the things I've discovered I use a lot (what with all the reading I do online) is the scrolling functions the keypad has when numlock isn't in play.

Last night thost stopped behaving. I am certain that in the course of some other application, I pressed some magic combination of keys, but now they (and the cursor keys) control, not the scroll funtions, but an actual cursor.

Where this cursor decides to manifest in the page will determine it's behavior.

In main body text, it sort of scrolls. It's got some lag, while it gets to the top, or bottom, of the screen.

In sidebar text it jumps from the last bit, to the end, with nothing in between.

The dedcated page up/down screens still work, but that's no good for trying to look a graph, or an image. I have to use the trackball on my mouse.

So far I've not figured out either how I did it, nor found any documentation telling what to do to fix it/set preferences.

Oddities

I'm stealing moments here and there while the cooking proceeds. Right now the last of the bread is rising, and I am about to decide whether to buy more fennel for making soup. There's probably enough, if I use lots of the leaf, but if I want the more subtle flavor of the root, I need to swing out and buy three more or so (I bought it to make for supper yesterday, but too much was going on, which is fine because Maia wasn't hungry anyway, so I'll add it to the menu, this being a festal occasion, and we'll have a groaning board).

I wrote something a few months back about a news article, yesterday afternoon theree was a flurry of responses.

All of them anonymous, with no way to identify who they were, even by the loose standards I require.

I feel funny posting this, because it seems I am beating up on the defenseless, everyone who wrote anything got the same answer; and that slightly hostile.

To make it more intereting, the IP addy for the posts were all the same, but they were some 300 miles from the location of the event.

If it were me, one post, even with the slightly hostile/dismissive tone, would have been enough. Send to to the person who wrote the first piece, and then forget it. But eight, in the course of ten minutes? All the same, not actually addressing the content of anything more than the first post?

Makes me wonder just how much grief he's gotten that he's that prickly.
