Recall last year when an Indiana legislator tried to make it illegal for anyone who wasn't married to get help concieving?

Virginia is now trying to do the same thing.

Which is as nothing compared to what Indiana legislator Troy Woodruff is trying to do... make it a felony to perform an abortion in Indiana.

He did this knowing that it's against the constitution of both Indiana, and the United States. He is doing it specifically to get it challenged, in the hope it will end up being heard by the Supreme Court, where a the newly appointed members of the bench might uphold it and overturn Roe v. Wade

As timing goes it's probably about as good as it gets, since O'Connor's replacement hasn't yet been confirmed, and so the various debates can still be had.

Troy Woodruff did it because he won that seat by literally less than a dozen votes, and he's in serious trouble. He sent LETTERS out personally assuring his constituents he'd never vote for a daylight savings bill, and then he was the vote that passed it. This is political survival, period. I actually think that the Indiana GOP drafted the bill so that they could paint anyone who didn't give it a committee hearing or said anything bad about it as anti-God in the next election, which is soon, as they have publicly admitted the religious right accounts for 30% of the vote and they can always be counted on to get out the vote. The GOP is also in serious trouble, and I predict they will lose the House next election due to a number of missteps and outright bungling in the budget session. Plus Mitch Daniels has high unfavorables, surprisingly enough. So, they needed something to stir up the party base, and because Woodruff threw himself on his sword for the party to pass Daniels' pet daylight savings bill, they gave him the honor of introducing this poison pill.

I hope, and pray, you are right.

Esp. since a majority of people say they would be against Alito being appointed if they knew he was against abortion.

Rocky times ahead, but if we can shoot the rapids it might be ok below the falls.

USAxis of evil infiltrating our own country. I wonder if that's just another use for the Patriot Act, to locate people who are trying to obtain abortions so they can nab those terrorists.
