I've long considered myself a conservative liberal (both with lower-case initials), mostly because of a gradually-acquired conviction that radical/Liberal changes rather often create more & sometimes worse problems than those they are intended to solve. But the current NeoCon Administration has introduced -- directly or indirectly -- more genuinely Radical changes than any Administration I can remember since FDR's first term (though, admittedly, I was too young then to really understand what was going on other than that my dad couldn't find a job other than with the WPA and that the Government occasionally gave us powdered milk, flour, processed cheese, cornmeal, and raisins). Now, I'm thinking seriously about describing myself as a Liberal, flat out and unashamedly. I think it should be safe enough, at least here in the Los Angeles area.
