Baby got new shoes
Aug. 13th, 2010 12:43 amAnd an oil change (w/filter).
I was planning to do do a "dirty" change (i.e. just drain and refill), but the cost of a total change (and no need for me to turn a wrench) was pretty good, so I added it to the new tires.
These had 8,000 miles on them, from when I got the bike, so probably about 9,000 total. That's a pretty good life for tires. The fronts were down to about 2mm of tread. That's not bad. According to BMW that means I ought not travel at more than 80mph.
It's amazing the difference. The bike didn't feel unresponsive, but the way she rolls into a corner now... whoof!
Tomorrow I shall scuff them up (the tires are slick when they come out of the mold, and the surface needs to be rubbed against something). Coming out of the shop the willingness to fall into a turn was nice, but there was some skittishness. I am entering late (and slow) and turning tight, in the interest of making sure that, should I need to lean deep, she won't slide under me.
