It's pouring hail. Not the usual slushy crap we get here, but pea-sized lumps of icy-rocks.

A couple of blasts of lightening (no thunder), and a cold rain (qu'elle surprise) which didn't end in the ten minutes I was expecting.

This is August Weather, after two days of June Weather, which followed four days of July.

And this is why I'm going to shrug and plant some flowers anyway. Even though late May is ridiculous for it.

Oh, and heavy rain with hail and thunder in Duarte. We've got a slight bit of sunshine now though.

We got a period of heavy rain, and some moderate (to a boy from the Midwest) thunder. Then some sun, more rain and mild thunder.

Right now, we have sun, that glorious clean light of post-thundershower.

Well that explains all the emergency broadcasts from the other room.

In Hollywood, it's just cool and a little breezy.

In my part of Covina, no hail (at least, no damage to Swiss Chard leaves), but about two inches of rain so far (and welcome, though it won't wet the soil more than two feet deep and do much good for trees & larger shrubs unless the current drizzle persists). But such untimely rain isn't entirely unknown -- I remember two Memorial Day weekends when it poured (I often am camping then, as I expect to be at least this Sat. & Sun. night, at the AFJTC at Los Alamitos), and one Fourth of July about 30 years ago. It's sure playing hob with many of the things I've put off doing until the last moment, of course.

I just finished a thundestorm (which terrified the dogs).

I recall being flooded out of some camping in '90, at the Fairesite in San Bernardino. It's not unknown (we got about four inches, over about 7 hours).

I suspect more variable rain for the next couple of hours.

my dogs weren't thrilled either - and the thunder was very gentle - to me - any clue as to what to do to help them?

Bring them inside. We had a a new cell move in. The thunder here was pretty solid, and some of the bursts really close (one of them was right overhead, less than 1/2 second from flash to bang).

I had to move the nesting hen from one of the kennels, and pop the soft kennel up.

Since the thunder hasn't stopped, they'll probably be inside all night.

There is no outside for my dogs - unless I'm out there with them on leash - they run willy nilly thru the apt barking madly and sometimes Jasmine will try to hide under the desk - sigh - Jim told me a dog he & his ex had needed to be sedated thunder was so upsetting to her -

We just had some gentle thunder and a spritzing here in Palms, roommate said it poured buckets a bit ago in Santa Monica - hope no hail - my old car is battered enough as it is -
