I think this benefits from the parallax effects which come of my having to lean back (with a wide lens) to get it into the frame.

It almost more impressive than it was in person.

They are such interesting birds. Ungainly on the ground isn't quite right, but they aren't really in their element until they take wing.

Whatever it is that gives them the blue feet is really variable.

Every so often one has to give in to the call of the mirror and take the shot. The trick is to keep the camera from being intrusive.
