I've been out of the loop since Friday:

So, I will take this opportunity to announce that felicitations are due [personal profile] matociquala who won the Campbell Award for best new writer at the World Science Fantasy Convention in Glasgow (which is a convention for SF, as well as Fantasy. The name predates Fantasy as a separate function of the genre) [Edit as [personal profile] pnh points out below, I misremembered the name (probably too much time with LASFS, and that's not right, it's World Science Fiction Convention)].

It's a big deal.

Since she is the greatest flogger of my blog (if I see a name I can't place, I assume she's been telling people about me) and was willing to go out of her way to have supper with us while we were on our way to Utah, and was kind enough to buy me a drink while we were at it, it only seems fair and just that I tell people about this.

She also laughed with/at me when I was critiquing the idiot in the parking lot who had zero idea of how to use the sap he was trying to beat someone with.

So, congratulations dear.

I guess I'll have to read one of your books now.

I went to my High School reunion (20th) this past Saturday.

It was interesting, pleasant and, as such things ought to be, revealatory.

If it wasn't for the internet, I'd not have gone. Some time back (looking for people from my other high school, I joined Classmates. They sent me a message about the reunion. Truth be told, there were maybe half a dozen people (from a class of about 900) I was interested enough in seeing to spend the money. Five of them said they were attending.

So I went, three of them showed up.

And it was the two I most wanted to see.

Oddly, neither of them has changed, much. Physically, I knew them straight away. In terms of personality, both of them (which probably means all of us) seem happier than they were in school (hell, as Susan put it, she'd be hard pressed to be less happy).
