pecuniumGoing through the "archives" I found some pictures from a couple of belt advancement demonstrations.
The first set are from Aikido Ai, in Whittier. Fernando was moving from 3rd kyu to 2nd.

I really like the way the mirror makes it possible to see two different aspects of the exercise.
Kata in the Mirror
In this shot I was trying to catch the stillness of Robins attention to the action of Fernando's motion.
Go your own way
This one, too, was about trying to capture the stillness in the center of good aikido.
The next couple are from Akido of San Luis Obispo. Russ was moving from 1st to second dan (as I recall). His demonstration was on the same day Doran Sensei came to lead a seminar. After we'd all enjoyed the lessons we got to relax and watch Russ.

As you might expect, the stillness at Russ' center is a little more evident than Fernando's was.
Spotting the Mat
Russ is really good with weapons. A few years ago I was having trouble with some aspect of flow. Russ decided to use the jo in the course of a class, and the "pureness" of the energy (since the jo is rigid, there isn't anything else to distract one) made things clearer.
In this picure Mark has attacked Russ with the jo and Russ is taking it away from him.
