How to lose money
Dec. 7th, 2004 11:56 amI have a new camera. It has more bells and whistles and I don't I know what to do with them all yet, but I needed a new flash.
I know how to use flash. Fill, bounce, off-camera, shutter drag, diffused, snooted, reflected, color correcting, all these things are known to me.
But slow, rear, middle, i-TTL and d-TTL are not doable with my present unit. It also won't talk to the camera to resolve white balance from disparate sources. These tricks are part of why I wanted a Nikon. Yes, I have a huge investment in Nikon equipment, but I could have decided Canon had better digital, and bought Tamron lenses. A mixed bag is doable, but the best flash gear (IMO) is Nikon, so I went with what I know, and have.
I went online; found a good price, and since I wanted it for last weekend's work, I was going to order it overnight, and have it delivered to my erstwhile home in Pasadena.
Then I saw the discaimer, 1: it might be as long as 48 hours from my placing the order before they got around to filling it, and (here was the real sticking point) if it was not being sent to the billing address of the card one could add another 2-3 days before it shipped.
So paying the $39.95 to get it overnight meant it would take 7-10 days.
I opted for the $12.95 standard, and arranged to borrow a friend's flash, which wasn't needed.
Yesterday I was sent e-mail saying it was being sent. Today I checked the tracking number with FedEx, it arrived in SLO at 0852, and is reported as being on the truck, to be delivered as of 0853.
Which means, if it arrives today, I will get it at the earliest point the fastest form of shipping could have gauranteed.
Go figure.
