On the lighter side

Being barely present for the best part of a month means I've not had so much chance to engage in silliness (at least not here).

I am, for those who wish to conspire with me in the Cause of Unitarian Jihad, The Claymore of Sudden Enlightenment which seems to sum that up pretty damned well. I'd not have minded something like "Sibling Hand Grenade of Reasoned Debate" for the sheer irony of that image, but I got the first one, and it just rang a bell.

[personal profile] akirlu posted the Band Meme, so These are all bands/performers I've seen live. The ones in bold are bands I've seen live, when she was present.

Boiled in Lead
Ryuichi Sakamoto
Warren Zevon

John Parr
Big Daddy
Julian Lennon
Andi PrieBoy
Concrete Blonde
The Untouchables
The Capitol Steps
Gordon Lightfoot
Brother (bagpipes and electric guitar, how can one say no?)
Peter, Paul, and Mary
Erasure
The Judds (I went with a friend, OK?)
some Tuvans (throat singing)
Cone of Silence (strange little group)
Celtic Clan
A bunch of Irish bands in small bars

I know there are more, but I've not been to many clubs/concerts of late, and the memory isn't what it used to be.

I've not seen any on your list! However, I'm rather envious of the following: Warren Zevon, John Parr (too funny!), Gordon Lightfoot, and Erasure. I'd also love to see the Judds, but I probably wouldn't pay for it myself.... ;)

I don't think you were around when I posted this, but if you're interested in seeing it, a few years ago I posted a list of all of the concerts I'd seen and notes about them all. I update as I see more. Some of it is pretty basal and, well, flippant about my past. It was fun though..going down that memory lane. :) Here is the list of all the concerts (that I can remember) I have been to:

Dokken
Heart
Disturbed/Chevelle
Godsmack/Midline (local Boise band)
Linkin Park/Mudvayne
No Doubt/Garbage (I think the Distillers opened too, but I am not certain)
Sweet Polyester (Disco Tribute Band)
Tool (x2 - once with no opener, once with the Melvins and Frank Black)
Ted Nugent
Lyle Lovett
The Black Crowes (x2)
John Hiatt and the Goners
Henry Rollins (spoken word)
Hit Explosion (another *better* disco tribute band)
Collective Soul
Rockfest 2000 (Rob Zombie, Megadeth, Primus, Godsmack)
Styx/Kansas
Billy Joel
Metallica w/ Jerry Cantrell
Lilith Fair, 1998 (Sarah MacLaughlin, Natalie Merchant, Sinead O'Connor, the Indigo Girls, Eryka Badu, K's Choice, Billie Meyers)
Stevie Nicks/Boz Scaggs
Pearl Jam
Tonic/K's Choice/The Verve Pipe
Sheryl Crow
U2/Rage Against the Machine
Ratt
Jane's Addiction
Kiss/Stabbing Westward
Crosby, Stills and Nash/Chicago
The Foo Fighters
Live/Veruca Salt/PJ Harvey
Dave Matthews Band/Big Head Todd and the Monsters
The Doobie Brothers/Steve Miller Band
Megadeth/Corrosion of Conformity
The Eagles
Page/Plant
AC/DC
Ozzy Osbourne/Korn
Scorpions
Steve Miller Band
James Taylor
Aerosmith
The Moody Blues
The Black Crowes
Alice in Chains
Van Halen/Vince Neal
MC Hammer

How's that for some variety? *giggle*

I saw Naomi Judd at the mall once. I saw lots of country music stars at the mall, at the grocery store, at my office...but I never heard any of them live. Which is a bit odd considering I lived in Nashville for eight years, but I was totally over going out to small clubs and bars by then.

"Brother (bagpipes and electric guitar, how can one say no?)"

I have not heard of Brother, but if you like guitar and bagpipes, give Bourne and MacLeod a listen. Their "Dance and Celebrate" album won a Juno when it came out. They immediately broke up, of course.

I Too have heard the Tuvan throat singers. They did "Red River Valley" for their final encore in Winnipeg (on the Red River of the North), and they brought the house down.
