Tired, and miles to go before I sleep.

I am dashing off a quick note before I head to work to do inventory.

I spent the past two days taking a 20 hour motorcycle skills course; it rained today. I passed. Passing is good, it means I can get my actual license by just walking into the DMV and handing in a form. I don't have to wait 2-3 months to arrange a test date.

And the test for the MSF waiver is a lot harder than the DMV test, so all in all the 250 bucks was money well spent. Lots of practice at things which one isn't as likely to attentively practice/be aware of, and a lot (about ten hours) of slow, and mentored, work on basic skills.

So I am a better rider for it too.

But I am tired, (and stressed, the test was amazingly nervous-making). I didn't do as well on the practical as I would have liked, but my major failures were of caution, so as things to screw up go, that's to the better.

In a class of seven, we had four pass (and one person who was retesting failed again; so eight took the test, half failed). I guess I can be proud of myself.

I did that course back when I first learned to ride (I was scheduled for the beginner course, but due to some scheduling craziness, I ended up taking the advanced course a month later). It definitely made me a better rider (and driver, as well).

Dunno what kind of bike you ride, but I used to be a member of the Honda Rider's Club, which has *lots* of discounts for motorcycle stuff.

Off-topic: You've probably already seen this, but better to get an extra notification than to have you miss the chance.

Congratulations! I learned to ride taking that course in MN many years ago, and took the Advanced Rider course as a refresher after a few years of not riding. An excellent organization. I wish you a lifetime of joy on the open road.

Even though I had be riding for YEARS without my license (I learned when I was 18), I didn't take my test until last year. Took the course so that I would get cheaper insurance...

Five people were in front of me... all failed until I took mine. They all failed for stupid little nervous mistakes too. Was kind of sad.

I took the Canadian Safety Council course back in the day, and if I get another bike (as it's been mumble years) I'll do it again before I ride the real one. Great course - I assume the MSF one is similar.

Only time in my life I tried to kill my teacher (long story, effectively both teacher and student pushing the limits the same way at the same time, with no opportunity for communication).

Oh, and I did it twice, and am NOT embarrassed about failing the first time - they said "you are a very marginal pass. We want you to take the course again; if we fail you, you don't pay for the repeat; if we pass you, you do." Also, they were RIGHT - I did need to take it again.
