Packing

I start working my way back home tomorrow. It will probably be the reverse of the trip out here (which means nighttime the whole way. and the moon fleeing behind us). On the one hand that means I won't have idiot stewardesses telling me to close my window, and then assuming I'm afraid of flying, because I like to look at the scenery, but it means I won't have that scenery, and I'll have to fight to stay awake.

It's been a good trip. Career wise, yes... I have some new credits for the bio, and new skills, and more insights on things I knew (practical applications of things theoretical, and insight on how the reports I get are put together).

Work wise... yes. It's not been hard work, but it has been busy.

Tourist wise... not so much. I've seen more of the country, but I've not had much free time to go out. I might be able to do some tomorrow, and perhaps Sat. is going to be a day off, before the flight home, but I doubt it.

On the other hand, that doesn't bother me too much. I want to buy some souvenir for some people, but I got the feel of the place last time, and it feels much the same. A tad more Americanized (more McD's, and KFC, and Dunkin' Donuts (which I can't get in L.A., but hey, if the world were perfect I'd be out of work).

It'll be nice to go home.

Everyone is wishing you a safe trip, and I still have the childlike "didja get me anything?" in my head left over from when my dad went on business trips.

Some things never change, he hasn't gone on one and gotten me anything in nearly 20 years.

Have a safe and relaxing trip home.

Have a safe trip home - I wish I'd had more time these past two weeks to really read and reflect on some of the things you've written - hopefully the next few weeks will give me a bit of time to catch up on that. You've got a nack for writing clearly and presenting a vivid image to the reader from your perspective. Thanks for sharing.

Good news that you're on your way back. Hal came home last night in a state of general agitation, having checked the carrier stats earlier in the afternoon. Apparently we have five carriers out right now, and of those, one is in the Gulf, zero are in the Atlantic, and four are in the Pacific. That seems like a lot, and so we were...concerned. One hopes this is just the large-and-friendly bouncer leaning in a little closer when he senses a possilbe dust-up, but one never knows.

I don't feel nervous, the way I did the last time I was here. I think the impending election will keep them quiet. The North really wants Bush to win, because Kerry wants verified disarmanent, and verfied lack of capability to re-arm.

So if he wins, this could get pretty tense, but I'll be home by then (and with luck locked into a stint in Monterey).

Ok where are you coming home to? I'm hoping for a trip out to LA soon.
